Tarangire & Ngorongoro Safari

Embark on a 5-day adventure with Know Tanzania Safaris, exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Tarangire and Ngorongoro. Discover where ancient baobabs stand sentinel and the Tarangire River carves a vital path through the arid plains. In Tarangire National Park, witness an unparalleled concentration of wildlife, offering intimate and authentic encounters. This EEO-friendly safari package opens up a canvas of wild beauty, where the dry season draws animals to the river, creating a vivid tapestry of nature’s resilience and splendor.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Tarangire National Park: Prepare to be immersed in a world where the largest herds of elephants in Tanzania roam freely. Expect to see lions lounging in the shade of acacias, and an array of birds, including the iconic yellow-collared lovebird. The park’s lesser-known status ensures a more personal wildlife experience with fewer crowds.
  • Ngorongoro Crater: Descend into this natural wonder, often referred to as ‘Africa’s Garden of Eden’. Here, you’ll witness one of the densest populations of large mammals in Africa, including the Big Five – lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos. The crater floor offers a unique, self-contained ecosystem where you can observe animal interactions up close.
  • Cultural Interaction: Learn about the Maasai community, whose traditional way of life coexists with this wild landscape. Enjoy cultural exchanges that respect and celebrate local heritage while promoting equality and inclusivity.
  • Scenic Beauty: From the vast, open savannahs to the dramatic landscapes of the crater, be ready for breathtaking views at every turn. The contrast of the dry Tarangire with the lush, green Ngorongoro provides a diverse visual and sensory experience.
  • Conservation and EEO Commitment: Know Tanzania Safaris is dedicated to sustainable tourism, supporting conservation efforts, and providing equal employment opportunities. Your journey contributes to the preservation of these habitats and supports local communities in a fair and inclusive manner.
  • Comfort and Safety: Enjoy comfortable accommodations, knowledgeable guides, and safety measures that ensure your safari experience is both enjoyable and secure.

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, met by your driver/guide and our representative. We will take you to Tulia Hotel and SPA (or similar) at Arusha, your safari will start the following day. Accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis.

Days 2: Tarangire National Park

Breakfast, thereafter depart for Tarangire, Tanzania’s third-largest national park and sanctuary for an unusually large elephant population. Majestic baobab trees are an interesting feature of the park, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. There is a great diversity of wildlife including Lions, Leopard, Cheetahs and up to six thousand Elephants. Enjoy a game drive with picnic lunches. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. The Tarangire River is the primary source of freshwater for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season. During the dry months, the concentration of animals around the Tarangire river is almost as diverse and reliable as in the Ngorongoro Crater.  Later in the evening, drive to your camp.

  • Dinner and overnight at Sangaiwe Tented Camp or similar camp. All meals included.

Day 3: Karatu (cultural tour at MtowaMbu)

Breakfast, thereafter take a farm tour through the local village of MtowaMbu. This biking tour winds between banana and rice plantations while visiting tribal communities. Along the way it will be explained how these diverse groups cooperate in sharing water and land resources, learn how bananas are planted and harvested for various purposes, also visit a local “pub,” enjoying its banana beer set within surrounding banana palms also the sights and sounds of this vibrant village. You will watch the Makonde tribe sculpt handmade wood artwork from black dense wood in the tradition of their Mozambique ancestors and be invited to try their method of wood sculpting yourself.

Then take a cycle to the lakeshore (Lake Manyara), where the lake’s stunning vistas are located in the Great Rift Valley Wall and small herds of wildlife. The ride is on fairly flat single tracks. A guide leads all rides. The local lunch at MtoWaMbu will be an event unto itself. It will be at a unique venue that is the extension of a resident’s kitchen. It combines a form of community economic development served by a resident who transformed her kitchen into a business with a great variety of local African dishes. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhino can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see Lions, Elephants, Zebras, Hippos, Flamingos, Jackals, Rhinos, Antelopes, many birds and other species.
